Fallout New Vegas companion bug?

When I recruited Veronica as a companion, she would every now and then comment on something around her. Like if we were in the the Energy Weapon store place, she'd make a remark about something there. But then I started her side quest and she doesn't talk anymore. Is it because of the quest or is it a bug? I'm still doing the quest so will completing it let it go back to normal?
