What is the name of the trumpet solo that I heard every night on TV news in El Paso in 1978?

It starts with three slow ascending notes like A, B, C, then jumps up some interval, then continues theme. I tried wikipedia and checked about 30 Herb Alpert singles but so far no cigar.
